The Lanfredi Signature Haircut Changes the Beauty Industry‘s Approach to Beautiful, Healthier Hair
By Sarah Bamford
Paulo Lanfredi has lived and worked in Greenwich for almost three decades. Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Paulo left Brazil for the United States after working in the healthcare industry as a physiotherapist. Shortly after moving, he began to transfer his interpersonal and detail-oriented skills to the beauty industry with the encouragement of his friend, a renowned trichologist.
Paulo naturally gravitates toward a modern aesthetic and guides his clients on a journey to healthier-looking hair in his salon’s ultra-chic interiors. Her process requires multiple visits, but her successful track record proves that her talent and time are worth the investment. Last year, Paulo announced the international copyright of the signature haircut he created to identify damaged hair and promote shiny growth. Its innovative cut, the Lanfredi Signature, has been designed to manage hair through three phases of hair generation; anagen or active, catagen or transitional, and telogen or resting growth. Eliminating all damaged split ends is key to his signature cut and he believes it’s the only real way to achieve healthy hair.
Working from the hairline, not the obvious exterior, Paulo cuts the hair to length and begins his patented technique while blow-drying. As he identifies the damaged hair under the healthy outer shafts, Paulo begins a second cut. Paulo’s technique was designed to trim damaged ends at each growth phase to ensure a solid foundation for hair growth. “There are many reasons why we have damaged hair,” he explains. “Some of the reasons include self-induced habits such as applying extreme heat, wearing tightly tied hair, or rough brushing the hair. Other reasons are due to poor diet, medication, or genetic disorders.
Paulo says his unique approach is the only way to prevent future damage and achieve truly healthier hair. He believes that investing in expensive products or treatments before removing dead ends is a waste of money. The key to repairing damaged hair is to first remove the damage using its technique, then maintain healthy hair using items like silk pillowcases and quality products mixed in with a mode of healthy life. Managing emotional stress and diet will also improve the look and quality of our hair, but without the signature cut, fighting damage is an uphill battle. “My clients are seeing dramatic results and I look forward to helping other professionals in the industry use this valuable technique. I love seeing the results and helping my clients have beautiful, healthy hair.
In addition to haircuts, Paulo offers a luxurious experience at his “his & hers style” salons on Greenwich Avenue. Full-service salon and spa services are customized for women upstairs and men downstairs. In addition to haircuts, services include styling, color, massage, manicures, pedicures, facials, and facial hair maintenance with custom shaves. CAVE, inspired by the idea of a man cave, is located below street level and offers a membership program that includes perks like whiskey and scotch tastings. Paulo is the only merchant in town that accepts cryptocurrency, and premium hair and skin care products are available for sale. Guests can also find a QR code in each lounge with special lunch or dinner menus created in partnership with Hinoki Restaurant and Bar across the street.
For expert spa treatments, Paulo has teamed up with Alvina Bertulis, a licensed skincare specialist with a decade of experience in her industry. Alvina creates individualized facial and skincare routines for each of her clients at the Paulo Lanfredi salon. It uses the latest technology to leave the skin glowing, radiant and healthy. Alvina works exclusively with Biologique Recherche and HydraFacial to achieve the best results and deliver an exceptional experience, leaving her client’s skin feeling refreshed, clean and rejuvenated. Biologique Recherche treatments are based on a personalized dermo-cosmetic diagnosis following the analysis of your Instant de Peau©, in order to ensure that they correspond to the needs of each skin type. Paulo Lanfredi Salon is one of the few retailers in Connecticut and the only one in Greenwich to exclusively carry the product line.
Looking to the future, Paulo plans to teach the signature Lanfredi cut within his industry and launch a line of organic hair care products for men and women. With nearly two decades of experience working with top salons, opening his first business Paulo Lanfredi Salon in 2018 and his second business CAVE by Paulo Lanfredi in 2021, Paulo is also developing two new businesses. A premium cachaça brand and clothing company, both currently based in Sao Paulo.
